Witch’s Wit Leaves Sour Taste

I've made some bone-headed moves myself, but this one makes me look good.

In 2008, a little obscure brewery decided it would be a good idea to print a label for their Witch’s Wit pale ale that would depict a graphic scene of a woman being burned alive at the stake for the crime of witchcraft, and in that depiction she would be surrounded by an angry mob of on-lookers who would enjoy that woman’s death while drinking their favorite Witch’s Wit pale ale. And that somehow this would be a statement against the establishment of the (Catholic) Church.

Seriously, that’s what the makers of pale ale Witch’s Wit beer thought would make a good label for their good vs. evil themed pale ale beer.

Wow... I'm insulted. It generally takes an awful lot to insult me, but this did it. I must admit, the picture itself pissed me off, but the company then saying "Oh well, you just don't understand the art... really, whatever. We'll discuss it in our November meeting... you know, we have to capitalize on the Halloween sales" is what really gets me ready to think about boycotting them. I wish I drank beer, so that my boycott would matter!

Did you guys read the text blurb included with the beer?

Yep, I wouldn't mind calling down lighting on their business after this little stunt.

I had to stop reading it cause I was getting a bit, hmmmm, peeved, which is a major health no no right now. This is just wrong, I mean seriously, in this day and age, it's tacky and about as un-pc as they could get, short of some kinda Muslim gas mask brew or something. But if you're gonna do something like that, get it right. Actual witch trials and burning times were based on those deluded monks and their stupid book Maleus Malificarum, them simple name of which should be a tip off that they were more'n a lil off. For y'all with no Latin based language background, root word there, obviously, Mal, in both words, odd in itself. Mal means bad or evil. Sorry, but wonder healers and such were actually Dutch and Germanic, for the most parts and them folks didn't have the same level persecutions as the rest of western Europe.

I can detach when studying or reading the historical stuff. What's happened has happened, what's past is past. Learn from it, but move on. This crap being put out there in this modern day and age though, different story.

I better not remember this if my health ever improves. A geek and former hacker can always think up creative ways to cause irritations that aren't illegal at all, just kinda digital karma in action, lol

By the way, it's usually translated as Hexenhammer, or the Hammer of the Witches. "Mal" which is translated usually as "bad" has nothing to do with it in this case. Haven't read that drivel since my teen years. Still remember bits and pieces though, unfortunately, lol. Scary thing what a religion that forces celibacy on it's priesthood can invent, that same priesthood that is.

Hmmm, if necessity is the mother of invention, does the above imply that chastity is the root of dementia?
