It was part of my Swedish course at Uni.

Couldn't start off with pipy Longstockings, could they? OH no. Probably one of the most difficult books to read in ANY language, instead. #-o

Edinburgh is very snooty about thieruniversity. They want to make life as difficult as possible for the students, to kind of proove a point.

Well, I used to want to study there, I am kind of glad I stayed in Canada, the professors are still crazy but the administration pressures them to really cater to students and all curriculuums have to be approved by several comittees.

Yes. THATS the trouble. Most of the comittee members where at Edinburgh in the 50's, and they think it should still be like that.

Dear lord, you're brave! I rather enjoy Victor Hugo, although he does have an unfortunate habit of going off on tangents for chapters at a time (seriously, I don't need to know that much about Waterloo). Unfortunately I always get about two thirds of the way through Les Mis and then get distracted by something easier to read (usually Pratchett). Then by the time I go back to it, I forget where I am, and I have to start all over again. (Gaaahhh).

On the subject of Pratchett, there's a turtle fossil discovered by my university that they named after him... "psephophorus terrypratchetti". It's in the museum and is very big ^_^

I like the classics... I'm attempting to read my way through Lovecraft's reading list at the moment, although some of the books are rather hard to find. Matthew Lewis's "The Monk" was brilliant in parts, and dragged terribly in others. Still, definitely worth the read. With Lewis and Hugo, I now have a considerable distrust of monks.... :lol:

Les Miserables. Even in the abridged addition he mutters on about it for a chapter. I skipped it entirely in the proper version. It was rather sizeable.

The most impressive litery feat I have seen recently was my Sister in law reading "war and peace" in a week, in the origional Russian. Then producing a five thousand word essay on it and getting 85%! :-?

In other news, I have just gotten a new public library card and I am off to search for my next bedtime book. I need something a little light and airy after reading mr. Echo.

I have stopped reading them in public, as you get extreemly strange looks when you burst into laughter every 5 minutes. :roll:

Don't roll your eyes and sigh.
I finished HP and the Deathly Hallows on Sunday.
I am about to start "The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer" (research) while I am waiting on Stephanie Meyers' New Moon, 3rd in series (Twilight and Eclipse are the 1st and 2nd). They are basically about how troublesome it can be to date a vampire, especially when you have a good friend who's a werewolf, and the two beasties are in a blood fued.
I have also read the first two books in Libba Bray's trilogy( A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels), and I have the 3rd pre-ordered - The Sweet Far Thing (can't remember if it comes in Sep to Dec). It's about girls at a boarding school who enter a parallel universe where things have gone terribly wrong and they have to try to put them right, while fighting secret societies and victorian social mores.

I am a member of a book club here, which is great....WAS great.

You just go on the web site, put in the name of the author, and up come all his/her books.

NOW you can't do that, you have to know the title you are looking for. :evil:

WHAT use is THAT?

Oh well, they still let me go three months before I pay, four if you play stupid and say you never got the bill. :lol:
