I also like Metallica, but I restrict my liking to the first four albums. Those were truly the hallmark of their musical career, as they were filled with the greatest creativity and metal spirit. From the self-titled album onward, they were becoming more and more commercial. As much as I like And Justice For All, you can even see some small seeds of a more commercial direction. Take "One," for example: although I like it, it's the most commercial sounding song of the earlier Metallica material. I completely dismiss Load, Reload, and any other subsequent "Metallica" albums, as they have ceased to be themselves, especially after Load. What sellouts and traitors to music they've become!

Yes, I'm a Metallica purist. Yes, I prefer hearing "Disposable Heroes" and "Seek and Destroy" over "Enter Sandman" and "Disappear." Such is my opinion, and if you don't like it you know where to kiss.

And if I could still vote, I'd cast a vote that says Metallica doesn't deserve to be any kind of icon anymore. ;)

i myself enjoy the black albulm (metallica self titled) to the extreme. i think "one" is a very powerful song and i dont think they sold out. yeah their early stuff is some of there best i love the new stuff. "St. Anger" is a really cool song and i want the cd. and you dont deserve to have your rear kissed by one as wonderful as myself.

Peace

Ps "Enter Sandman" is like one of my fav metallica songs of all time.

Sorry Moon Baby1, I really don't know much about Metallica. I have watched tv interviews with them, have read about their politics in regards to internet distribution of their albums....but haven't really listened to anything besides Master of Puppets...which was way back when I was in high school- hmmm? what year was that? 86? I can't really remember?

Miss Tangerine, Master of Puppets is the best of their albums--period. And Justice For All (1989) is still a good album, but after that they just put out a bunch of sellout crap. It's fluffy, no art to it, no punch...in other words, stay away from the self-titled album, Load, Reload, and their subsequent albums. *coughselloutscough*

MoonBaby--

That song "One" I have mixed emotions about. The first time I ever heard it I also got to watch the video at a friends house who had it on tape. The video was very disturbing to me and I had nightmares forever. Right after that for some odd reason I kept hearing the song on my fav radio station and the bad feelings and pictures would come back to me so I hated that song.

Then after my fiance passed away in August I heard it again. As I still cant shake the bad feeling I always get from it, it was differenet this time. The song spoke to me on a real personal level about what was going on in my life. And my fiance loved that song so very very much. He was a huge metallica fan.

So in the end I think its a great song and a bad song at the same time. *Lol* I dunno if that makes any sense.

blessed be

I am with azura in that their best music was before they became sellouts, and since the napster event I no longer call myself a 'fan'. I still listen to their music whenever it's on the radio but I try and protect the one and single album I own because once that's gone that's it. I refuse to give anymore of my money to their selfish cause. In fact their "rightful" stance has caused me to become more of a pirate and copy their music rather than buying anything. Yes, I have a computer and the ability to copy music, and I do on an ocasion. But I also continue in the traditional way of exchanging goods called purchasing. I just no longer find their continued career entertaining anymore, you could go as far as say I've been "dixie chicked" by metalica.

hmm this is very interesting to me. people are either die hard metallica fans who love them to death and love their new stuff, or they are hateful cause they think they are sellouts cause they made a video and became mainstream. but the funny thing to me is, yeah the music got played on radio and they made videos but they werent as mainstream when Nirvana was around and they have survived with the same style of music while others have blown up in catastrophy. i for a fact love their new stuff. but this is where i go, "hey whatever you all are allowed to have your own opinions even if i dont agree with them" and trust me there is a lot in the music world we probably wouldnt agree upon.
