Okay I have been checking here because I thought SOMEONE, at least ONE person would have already made a post about this war and their views about it so we can discuss it. I know we already discussed how we feel about our president, but now that the war has actually started, lets get views on that.



Personally I hate listening to the news because the only one topic I want to hear about never gets mentioned, and maybe its because I am a little selfish but here is what I want to hear.



I want to know (in percentages, ect) how likely it is that something bad will happen to us American people here at home. Not necassarily from Saddam either because when it comes to this whole war thing we have pissed off a lot of countries and broke a lot of rules. We broke a treaty, we are going after Iraq without the backing of the UN, and the thought of there already being people in this country from all the countries we pissed off, just waiting for word from their leader to open this tiny vile of chemical or biological distruction scares the crap out of me.



War used to be something that only affected other countries, and the men in our military, at least in my eyes. This is the first time that I think it can actually affect a majority of people here in the united states. They can kill us innocent civilians if they want to.



And has anyone else noticed that the technology we have now is really cool when it comes to war? We got technologies to try to discover if it was really Saddam on that tape, we have technologies for up to date live pictures of Iraq, Satellite survailance, they are using Maya for animations to describe to people whats going on, really cool radars, stealth planes, laser guided missiles and bombs, ect.



Ok this is really long and I have never cared about politics or war before this. Just my views anywayz. I hope I didn't piss anyone off. Waiting to hear from anyone else.



Oh and lets all say a blessing and light a candle for the soldiers over there and the innocent Iraqi people too. That everyone is safe when this is all over.

I know i didn't give a time limit. I just meant sometime during this war with Iraq. Or did you mean for how long the poll is going to run?? I didnt set a limit on that either.



And i didnt mean if we do it to ourselves (cuz in reality i didn't know we did it to ourselves.....thats terrible)



I also read/heard in the news that government intelligence says that the biggest nuclear power plant we have in the US MIGHT be a target. And it just so happens that is the Palo Verde Power Plant, 50 miles west of Phoenix. (yay me) And it supplies power to like 4 or 5 states around here.

Not sure how likely this is to happen cuz it doesn't seem very likely, but if its enough for them to put it on Cnn.com and they also posted the coast gaurd (or some people) around the plant to protect it..........then its serious enough for me.

I believe that the point of this war is to disable and remove those who would use such massively destructive weapons against anyone. A biological weapon is severe because it could spread to the whole world depending on what it is. If we are successful, and I have no doubt that we will be, happenings like that will be minor. No one wants to have such a lasting effect done to their country.

im glad you made this post cause otherwise i would have. anywho i was talking to some people the other day and i just have one question on this war. why does president bush expect Iraq to get rid of its nuclear weapons when we ourselves probably have more. i mean put yourself in their position, if you had a country like the US threatening to bomb you would you get rid of your defense and just sit there like a sitting duck? is it really ok for us to have nuclear weapons in the first place? if one country has the right to have nuclear weapons to feel safe doesnt that give every other country the right to have them so they to feel safe?



and another thing, there are childeren starving in the US, there are childeren getting lost in the system. why spend billions on bombs when it should be spent on the kids who need the money and the education system so everyone can have an egual opportunity to succed in this world. there are people dropping out of school simply because they dont understand the curriculum. if more money was spent paying teachers and making classes smaller then people wouldnt drop out.



and seriously everyone knows that this war is only because of the oil in iraq. since the president doesnt trust saddam to keep supplying our oil he decides to go get it himself. all we have to do is make SUV's and light trucks a cuple more miles fuel efficient and so much oil would be saved. the car companies have the technology to make it happen but they wont do that cause then they would get less money. it is pathetic to me that our country's economy is based on the car industry. if the car industry fails so does our economy. all the oblivious people who dont realize it is about the oil dont know what they are supporting when they are supporting the war and that is also sad because in this day and age they should be more informed.

No nation, state, or group will be safe until the complacent, entitlement culture has disappeared and been replaced with one that thinks about the consequences of it's actions. We are all guilty of it - leaving a light on when no one is in the room, driving somewhere we could just easily walk, or throwing away food simply because we didn't cook the vegetables soon enough and they went bad in the fridge.



I've been listening to Bill Maher's latest audio book "When you drive alone, you drive with Bin Laden." Did you know it takes 11 gallons of oil to power a lightbulb for one year? I highly recommend this book.



Consider the everyday things you do thaat waste power, materials, or food. Every little bit waste we cut out reduces our reliance on oil, thus reducing the amount of money going to people who would do us all harm. A reduced need for energy production and increased recycling will also proove an excellent benefit for Mother Earth.

I really really dont think its about the oil. Well ok but maybe only a second objective. The first is really to get Saddam out of power which needed to be done a long time ago. While his country was starving he was building a lot of palaces for himself that cost millions to make. Hes just a really really bad leader and for some reason President Bush sees it as his duty to free the people of Iraq. My only two problems with that is #1 its not really his duty #2 the people don't want to be saved. Saddam is 65 years old, he has been in power over there since 1979. People dont know any other way of life except to follow saddam.



And also i doubt that he is keeping nuclear weapons or bio/chem weapons "to feel safe" as you say. Those things were only built to do really awful things to a huge amount of people and damage mother earth and IF he has them, i suspect thats what he plans on using them for.

Look at Canada, they are a neutral country but they still have bombs, missles, military (kinda) but only in defensive mode. They dont have nucelar or bio/chem weapons and probably feel really safe.



And about the car thing, I know we have some cars that are fuel efficient and use alternative fuel and even some electric cars out there. They are just too expensive right now for the mass public, as anything is when it is new, eventually the prices will come down, everyone in the world will have an electric car and it will be great.

Don't talk about what you don't know, there are people in Iraq tearing down pictures of saddam, celebrating and welcoming the U.S. soliders into their towns. Individual people phrasing the americans saying that saddam needs to get out of their country. I didn't see it but last night they aired a story about a woman's cousin who wrote something against the government and saddam in her notebook. When they found it they took her and put her in jail at only 16 years old. They took her family and had them watch while they raped and beat women, put people into meat grinders alive, acid alive. Saddam is another hitler people, he used his own country as a concentration camp and tested his exparimental chemical weapons on his own people. Even if you didn't know anything else, I'm sure you could know if something was wrong or right.



Oh and that woman, while she is a U.S. citizan and she still has family in Iraq, she wants this war.



And about the cars, what ever we do now wouldn't affect the out come of this war. Saddam planned this thing for years, a decade. If we wanted to keep him from obtaining weapons or having the financial ability to construct such things we should've conserved or found alternative ways 10-12 years ago. If we win this war I believe we should continue using gas just like before because the Iraqs will need the finance to rebuild their government and country. Not to mention, hospitals use more plastic than any other business, and plastic comes from oil.

So sorry, i just heard on the news that people over there like saddam. Altho i saw interviews with Iraqi people who live in our country now who are very happy for this war. I am for this war myself.



In fact I had this dream 2 nights ago that there were huge amounts of people running through the streets, i didn't know any of them except for Firelord and my family, then i got seperated from Firelord for a little while. I thought I would never see him again. He finally caught up. When the crowd reached the end of the street it was a dead end, blocked, no where to go, and there was bombs and missiles getting closer every second. In the dream I was crying and scared out of my life. I woke up crying and my hands were shaking so badly. My first two ideas is that I have never cared about politics or war before, and this one i have been paying a lot of attention to, and maybe it was the powers that be trying to make me see it from the other side, trying to make me see this war is bad. My second thought is that it was a premonition and that we are gonna get bombed, ect. Since then I haven't thought more about my dream since then.



And Firelord is not for this war at all. He thinks the news is making this war "look cool" to the people over here. And he thinks that Saddam let his people starve and be really poor while he spent all the money on bombs, missiles, ect to protect his country and his people from Isreal who keeps bombing Iraq. Then why did he let his people starve while he spent huge amounts of money on building palaces and shrines for himself??

Most likely because he's a dictator, your typical "my way or the highway!" Machiavellian who couldn't care less about "his" people! All he cares about are money (oil), power, wealth, prestige, and privilege, all HIS, no-one else's. The threat of biological warfare makes us (Canadians) just as scared as those of you who live in the States. I do not support this war because innocent Iraqui people are the ones who will continue to suffer the most, but I do wish someone had taken Saddam out of the picture long ago!



What scares me about the future is the damage that has been done to the United Nations, and the break in international relations between those countries that support the US and those that don't. We Canadians aren't too popular across the line these days; I've heard a number of stories of how the average American has taken out his/her frustration with my government on Canadian tourists. And then there's the "Freedom" Fries crap! It scares me to see what lengths some people will go to. What's next?



There was an article in the paper not long ago showing an Iraqui woman "helping" her son, about 12 years old, "beat" himself about the face with a knife, in celebration of "Ashoura". She had a triumphant, ecstatic look on her face; he was just dazed, in shock, blood running down his face. (Just another example of the degredation of Asherah after millenia of patricarchal leadership.) But this rite of passage for this boy will enable him to be eligible to be trained to fight, to kill, the hated infidels, the Westerners (I know, "Americans"), the Jews, etc. At what point in this war does the international community's freedom to choose to go to war, or not, matter any more, if the US president can just go ahead and do his own thing? Doesn't that make him a dictator of sorts, too?

This is a little off the subject but I read an article that in Ethiopia or some country like that, girls genitals get cut at a certain age. It means that they are ready for marriage. They tie their legs to poles that are spread apart, and there sisters, moms, aunts, ect help hold their arms. They are given a rag to bite on because it is shameful to scream during the process. Then they are cut with a razor blade. Nothing to numb them, ect. No guys are allowed at the ritual, they have no clue what takes place. Most girls die from it. Even if they do not die, when they get married sex and child birth is very painful.



The article was about this one girl who witnessed her sister being cut and decided not to have it done herself. The guy she married supported her decision. Their families and "tribes" disowned them forever.

It's called a cliterodechtomy or female circumcision, and is prevalent in many African nations, as well as in India. The girls are often as young as 8 when it happens, so it is NOT because they are then "ready for marriage" In many instances, in small villages, etc., NO ANESTHESIA IS USED. It is all about male domination over female sexuality; it removes the "pleasure centre" so that women can never feel sexually pleasure, just the men!! The women have been so dominated by patriarchal males that they believe the practice to be "healthy" and "in the girl's best interests" because they themselves were mutilated in this way, and because the women are the ones who actually perform this heinous act {unless they live in a city where a male doctor makes a fortune doing this} it's the only way they can rationalize what happened to them as being a part of their culture!
