I've got to be in the right mood for it, but in the right mood, I enjoy classic metallica.

I can be fashionably late for 10 pages of a topic, and will still post an opinion on the original post, even if the topic went on huge tangents :-D

i would just like to stick in an update...ha...if you can call it that....ive come to have a small amount of anger towards Metallica....the more and more i have heard of their new album....it isnt good...and not only that im sick of MTV and every one kissing up to them......but the one thing that will always stick out in my mind as the thing that changed my opinion of them is their recent concert rounds...they took Godsmack out with them as their opening act...my favorite band of all time.....i would have done anything to see them....oh except that is pay the $70 to get a ticket....what the crap is that? two bands and 70 bucks...i can go to Ozzfest for 20 and see a whole lot more bands....that made me so angry/sad that i just had to scream...so i did...and now i have a problem with metallica.....yeah i know im weird...but eh..things change...and i just thought i would let anyone know if they cared....and im done now

OK, I'm new at this and hope I'm doing it right. The subject is Metallica getting some kind of award from mtv for being the band of the year, or something? OK, maybe if this was 1988 they may be deserving of such an award. However, anything they've done since that has pretty much been garbage. OK, I will admit that there are a few songs from what many have come to refer to as "the black album" that I can hear without wanting to throw up. But that's about it. I don't know much about this award they got, but I can think of several other bands that have stayed true to themselves and their fans over the years that would deserve an award way more than Poserica... uh, I mean Metallica (for example Iron Maiden). Modern Metallica music makes me sick, I must admit. I recall flipping channels and coming across mtv or vh1, I don't remember which (probably vh1, because it was a music video that I came upon), and seeing a close up of James Hetfield tilting his head back and forth going, "tick talk, tick talk!" and thinking that any small amount of respect I still had for them was pretty much at that moment gone. And the scary thing was, he was trying to look menacing while doing it. How can this be coming from the same guy who belted out "Am I evil? Yes I am!" those many years ago. And then to hear them say that they never cared about the music or the fans, that they just cared about the money. [-X So I can say with a clear conscience that while I still enjoy their first four records, the only award Metallica deserves to get any more is the coveted "money hungry bastards" award presented at the Sell-Outs Award Ceremony. I realize that this is probably a dangerous thing for me to post as my first ever post on this site, as I'm probably going to tick (talk) allot of people off and make enemies right out of the starting gate. But I'm hoping that everyone will be willing to accept the fact that this is simply the way I feel about this band that I one time had massive amounts of respect for. This is my opinion, just as you are entitled to yours. If each of us had the exact same opinions, feelings and outlooks about everything, this would be a very boring world, and there'd probably be very little use for this site and others like it. But I'm going to stop talking now and hope I didn't step on too many toes. So until the next time that our paths cross, cul8er.

Hiding from tomorrow, nothing left to say
Victims of the moment, future deep in doubt
Living in a whisper till we start to shout
We're creatures of the night

My opinion is that of many metal fans. I like their older music. I can say I like a few songs off of their newer albums (one or two off of Load and Reload) as well as S&M, which I thought was great all around. However, I think that the death of Cliff Burton devastated their sound. He was the only one in the band who was really musically educated. If I'm not mistaken, he was a conservatory musician. I think he's the one who added the little extra umph to the music. Listen to "Call of the Ktulu" to see what I mean. That song was his baby. Part of And Justice For All was written by Cliff as well. I'm sure I'm not alone in considering that album the highlight of their career. I saw the black album as a pretty bad drop and their next two albums as well...I'm not going to get into that. I don't think they'll ever go back to their old sound.

I'm against the automatic labelling of a band as a sellout in light of commercial success but I thought St. Anger was...something I can't say in polite conversation. There's no problem with reinventing yourself, but for gods' sakes, keep writing GOOD music. My favourite band, Opeth, has not had two albums that sound even remotely like each other but they are all very well written. When they began to get a little more exposure (after 10 years of being around), they got alot of grief about "selling out" but I can't accept those arguments because I've never known them to write music to please anyone but themselves. In an interview, one member said "We don't really give a f*** about what people think" when asked about how they thought people would react to their last album, which was progrock instead of metal, like their others. That's exactly the kind of musician I can respect.
"I just hope angels in the forest
Saw me praying in my own soul
Death is unfair - That's real pain
Remoun you...Am I almost dead?
I miss my hope; My will to live
My last farewell forever, all alone"
