Wouldn't it be a tad smarter to start a "welcome y'all" thread where everyone can introduce themselves in turn rather than a separate topic for every single person? I've seen several groups do this and it turns out quite nicely, IMO.
Well, to start, hello there to all y'all (confused? y'all=singular, all y'all=plural, all y'all's=plural possessive) I'm a young Pagan from someplace odd in Michigan, USA. No idea how long I've been practicing exactly. I like to grow things, and currently have two plants, Amelia and Chickadee (chickadee is one of those hen-and-chicks things, Amelia a flower I can't identify) and a stubborn and arrogant (aka typical) cat by name of Wiskers Ferdinand II. I like pretty much all musical genres with the exception of rap and hip-hop. Oh yeah, I also have a super whiny kitten named Smokey Dip[bad word], and a window tray full of dill that needs weeding. I also belong to the Dragon's Wing forum, same username. Spend a lot of time online, actually, just don't remember to sign in to everything all the time. Je parle un peu franÁais aussi. Ooh, j'adore beaucoup franÁais! C'est beu, comme belle musique. Speaking of which, I play bass clarinet and trumpet, also.

Now, make yourself at home. There's some iced tea in the fridge.
Not a bad idea on the welcome thread, by the way. It might be something we want to consider.
I wasn't kidding about that iced tea. Glasses are above the sink and there's some ice in the green tupperware bowl in the freezer. Help yourself.

The newbie thread is usually where everyone introduces themselves. If we had only one string where everyone added there newbie hello at the bottom, it would probably get pruned in the automatic cleaning of the forum, and it would get very very long.
Other than those two things, its a fairly good idea tho.
