I don't politically speak, as I'd probably get in trouble for calling all the voters complete idiots.
Seriously I think most politics is generally a waste of time, after hearing some of the minutes of past cabinets (QLD Australian government), where they were discussing the choice of removal of the law against fortune telling etc.
This a direct quote; 1 April 1987
MR HAYWARD: I ask the deputy Premier, Minister Assisting the Treasurer & Minister for Police: does he recall that yesterday in House he declared his lack of faith in people who tell fortunes? That was the justification that he gave for retainin the offence of fortune-telling for gain in the Vagrants, Gaming, & Other Offences Act. Given the current trend towards Police Department drafted legislation being brought forward that his personal view on the merits of a victimless pastime should be the basis for citizens in this State receiving criminal records.
MR GUNN: I can tell the honourable member's fortune for him: he will have a very short stay in the House. As I have told him, I have no faith in fortune-tellers; I have no faith in horoscopes. I told him yesterday that a broken-down clock is right twice a day and that at times for fortune-tellers undoubtly will fluke the right answer. However, what the police are up against is that fortune-tellers are doing this for gain. If they like to have a little game of cards, as they do with the honorable member, and tell his fortune from these cards - I have already told him that I know what his fortune will be in this place -
AN OTHER MEMBER INTERJECTED
MR GUNN: I do not want to get into the honorable member's sloppy past. I have no intention of doing that.
I stand by what I said in the House yesterday: that it is against the law to tell fortunes for profit.
Did I just hear one threaten the other?, then insult him.. hmm sound like beauracratic stupidity to me. It so comforting to know that these are the people governing the state.
PS: that law is still in effect, and still catches the unwary.
