He did indeed need removed, but I fail to believe that he was completely evil. I know the media helps enforce the idea that he is, but he did protect a lot of people, and during his fall people were gunned down, blown up, etc in the streets on their way to work. Those things never happened while he was in power, those that worked were allowed to do so in safety. I know they have been given safety now, but only from those inside their own country. They don't have anything big enough any more to take on the threat of Israel, being they have fought with them for centuries over the land that they have. It's just to think what could happen now, and I don't see why we're supporting Israel. Why don't we take their weapons away and give them a new ruler? Of course, if we do that, why not China as well, eh? I don't understand where this is right... It's like we're saying we should have the power to tell any country who their ruler is, even though we are not a part of them, and most of us don't even like them... They are a different part of the world... why don't we just worry about our own, and how good we're doing?

I agree that the states can definitely go to far with involving themselves in foreign affairs, but I also recognize the simple fact that we can't do an Ostrich and stick our head in the ground (look only within our borders) and say we're safe. That's just plain stupid. We need to be aware of outside threats and be able to deal with them. I don't think we need to set up a bunch of puppet governments throughout the world, but in order to keep our people safe, we have to not only know what threats are out there, but be able to take action against them before they reach a point of critical mass where they are capable of trashing our people or our allies.



Also, why side with Sadam over Israel? Why not the other way around? Or why not back Egypt to form an empire again? Choices of who to back are, of course, political, but also are often based on the "least evil of choices" or those who are most valuable to "our way of life" and "our countries goals". Doesn't make it right, but then again, who's to say who's right in the Israel vs. Palastein vs. whomever over there?

Sometimes there just isn't any other option.



The US's national security was threatend... and until about a year ago, as a United States Soldier, that made it my job. We went in and toppled his empire of terror. We didn't do it only because of our security concerns, though. We did it because he was a threat to the whole world and committing crimes against humanity within his own borders.



He didn't have death camps like Hitler, but in my opinion he was just as bad, if not worse. He used Weapons of Mass Destruction (chemical and biological) on his own people and killed dissidents and proponents of democracy simply for speaking their minds. If a man spoke out, he was abducted; snatched right off the streets and taken to a toture chamber (some of these were equipped with electro-shock systems) and interrogated. Once they got the information they were looking for, he'd be murdered and then his family would join him in the afterlife.



If his people see fit, then Saddam should be executed.



The current Iraqi government might not be one chosen by their people, but it will be, in time. We're not going to just move in and declare them a US property. They are a free people, for the first time in decades. I'm sure that we'll be feeling repercussions of US actions in the Middle East for years to come, but I feel that we made right decision.

Saddam killed many innocent people. He caused pain to others and filled millions with feelings of fear. Saddam is a man the World may well have been better without.



But we in the West should have moved on from barbaric executions by now. America must show the world that it has something to say about ethics as well as industry, commerce and entertainment. Let Saddam live or let him die according to his own wishes, but he must not be given the chance to harm another being as long as he lives.



Or are we all too bitter and vindictive to refrain from hanging, drawing and quartering him?

1. Suddam product of US foreign policy.

2. US foreign policy is still the same.

3. Coalition "invasion" (not just US thank you but us Aussies and the UK) of Iraq will be a complete waste of time/resources and same events will reoccur.

4. No proof, before, during or after the war of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.

5. You cannot overthrow one dictator by invasion, the populous will support the home dictator over the invading powers. True and has happened on more then one occassion.

6. People are stupid, media is controlled, and the army is trained to kill.

7. NOONE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT IRAQ POW TREATMENT UNTIL IT WAS THRUST INTO THEIR FACES. Who's got Hitler concentration camps? I think we are clearly the one's who do.



Personally I think Bush is Nostradamus's third antichrist. But that's just me.

housed,

and made healthy and whole.



And reminded everyday that when Iraq has a government of the people, he'll be returned to them to stand trial.





This way the Islamic world will deal with it's own, and he will receive justice from the people he was supposed to protect.

i agree with half of this: The first part I agree with that he should be given the same courtesy that all humans deserve not out of kindness but as an example that we are not barbarians.....the second part, no.......we should keep him ourselves locked away.

Just saw the news update a couple of days ago. I think America did the right thing by letting the new iraqi government take legal (but not physical) custody of saddam, and allow them to to decide. Of course he is spouting a bunch of stuff about still being the president of iraq and that bush is the criminal. I don't think that the new government is going to take any of it. YAY!

although amazed at some of the anger. I think some of it is misplaced the US is responsible for how many more Iraqi/American deaths than Saddam since we started this war in ? what was it... 1990?
