Sorry to hear that, it's tough when loved ones are in the hospitial over the holidays, I know from personal experience on that one. Best bet is to try to keep some amount of normality - if they'll let you, decorate her room and celebrate the holiday with her as normally as you can.
My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.

I know everyone has probably told you this a million times and I think I have, too, but the Lord and Lady have truly blessed your wife with a wonderful and caring husband. I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. You'll both be in my thoughts.

Thanks Lotus, Melina, Wb-1, amd Stormy. The wife was transported to a nursing home where she will stay until she gains some of her strength back so she can be admitted to a rehab center. I am afraid to say that she might be there for a long time. Another bad thing is that she was located even further from home. There was no openings in Erie so I had to seattle for Edinboro since the other option was even further.

I pray that she gains back her strength and more. Blessing from us to you and your wife. The Lord and Lady will watch over you both. [-o<

Thanks Rune and Draconia. I been on-line very little these days. I did find out that the section of colon removed was cancerous. She will have chemo thereapy at a later date. Right now she has a gaping hole in her stomach which requires packing. I was told this was normal but it takes a long time to heal from the inside out. Also, I am coping with living alone. It's so alien for me to live like this and to travel a half hour drive to see the wife everyday. I am doing okay but I am peaved with the grove's head clergies because they live in Edinboro and have not bothered to see my wife once.

Get a cat
Seriously though, a cat with a good temperment is loving and will help with the loneliness, but they're independent enough not to require non-stop attention.
Also, add some things to the house, small things like candles and incense and such that will "brighten it up" in your mind. This will help a little with the loneliness. Also, keep some soft music in the background.
Just remember, we're here for you

I am so sorry to hear that it was the bad "C" word. She and you will remain in my prayers.
On a sort of gross note, but something that it is said will work when nothing else does - if they can't get the wound to heal and it gets infected, you might want to ask about getting her therapy with sterile maggots. I know it sounds horrible, but it is becoming more widely used because they will only remove unhealthy tissue and speed healing considerably. There is a medical company, can't remember the name right now, which specifically breeds and sells sterile larva for medical uses.

I do have a cat and dog Fairydust. The cat would rather be outside and the dog is a pain in the neck. He likes to annoy me. Candles and incense sounds interesting but I am not at home that often Rune. I am at the nursing home giving the wife my support. The wound is healing rather well and I don't see any problem of infection.

I know Rune and I am thankful to you for everything. Spending time with the wife really helps and it also helps her out of her depression of being in an "old folk's home." Her physical therapy is coming along slow but sure and now she can stand for a minute. The therapist fashioned a removeable splint for her useless left hand to keep it open which I was trying to do for years. This is good since her pinky finger was putting a hole in her hand. Now that can heal. I've been showing that hand to her doctor for years and now someone notices?
I don't know how long I can work half-a-day without being fired. I wish she was not so far from home that I could work an eight hour shift. I just got home and it's 8:30 PM. Oh well.

Have you had a sit down with your bosses about this yet? Many places are understanding if you can give them at least some sort of a temporary schedule - in other words letting them know that for the next ____ you will need to only work _____. Depending on the place, many also give a leave of absence for such things.
