Did we not used to have a topic on this?
Na well.
I have JUST got rid of that bloody awfull "Firefux" and replaced with Opera. Now I need to know before I bin Firefux, what happens to my Thunderbird if I do that?
I seem to remember that they are a package?

Re: Computer question.
I have good news for you. You can keep Thunderbird. It's a completely different program.
If you should lose it, you can get the newest version here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Re: Computer question.
Thanks muchly.
GREAT. Because this Opera is MUCH better. I don't keep gettiong "Firefux has found an error and is closing down" 9 times out of every ten times I try to open anything. AND, I don't know why this should be the case, but ALL my files seem to open MUCH faster than when Firefux was active.

Wow. We've never had a problem with Firefox in the years that we've used it

Re: Computer question.
Never had a problem until Firefux 3. THEN anything between five and ten trys to open websites, such as here. Each time "Firefux has discovered a problem and is closing down the programe". To open Firefux it's self, to get to google or something, the record was 55 times, before I got it to open, average 20.
WHEN I got to the sites, half the time I had to re login, REGARDLESS of whether I had klicked "remember me" or not. SOME sites I had to relog in going from page one to page two of a topic. 50% of the time it would throw me out in between, with THAT message, and I would have to start again.
My files that had NOTHING to do with the internet/firefox were so slow to answer that on those over 20,000 words were unusable. I mean we are talking two hours to open a 23,000 word file, and that is PURELY word, no graphics, no links, JUST script.
NOW all that is cured simply by changing to Opera.

Re: Computer question.
Firefox is something of a resource hog. If you're not running a system with scads and scads of RAM, then the newer versions of it are definitely not for you.
I used Opera back in 2002/2003 and found it to be a pretty decent browser. It was certainly better than Internet Explorer and it gave me the tabbed browsing that I'd been looking for. But then I discovered Firefox and I haven't looked back. I've had very good luck with it so far.

Re: Computer question.
Na, but my computer is only 750 meg! It was even worse, the old one was 200.
Also if any one uses Thunderbird, Some times, where normaly there is a dot at the beginning of the line, I get a "§sun" or even sometimes a star.
I thought it MAY be to do with"hot threads" por something, but there appears to by no rhyme or reason to it when it happens.
Any one any ideas what THAT is?

Re: Computer question.
I haven't used Thunderbird in well over a year, so I really couldn't hazard a guess as to what those mean.

Re: Computer question.
Thanks all any way.
What gets me is the NOT so "delicate sound of silence" when you try to ask the bloody firms themselves.
It is as if "How DARE you question our universaly superior knowledge. Go away you peasant!", or something.

Is all got to do with how big ones threatening stick is?
For a 1 off home user, you will never get any good help.
If you are a business with 10 licenses, you just complain that you are not getting the support that you expect and you would be better off with freeware.
The only way I know to get any response.
Sorry I have no experience with either programs.

NOT getting at you. In fact thanks for the reply. but that is a PERFECT example of the problemArcanum Owl wrote: Sorry I have no experience with either programs.
You have "no experience with the programmes", and it is the same with MANY others. When I try to use the Thunderbird "smilies" for example, and no one I write to can decypher them. Yet it was sold to ALL of us as "WOWWWW!!! EVERY one will be using this in about three hours, so you had better buy it now!!!!!!!!"
CRAP!
