As I said, I will see what I can root out. But a lot of the mythology surrounding Ran, as well as that of Heimdallr, have been "lost".

If I find enough to make it worth it, I will.

I thought it was strange that for such an important Goddess, there is so little about her. :-k Psh! Man and his 'forgetfulness' . #-o

"Lost" is rather...Hmmm...well not quite the right word.

A lot of what was written by the likes of Snorri Sturlasson, who was the first to document the mythology of the Norse, is suspected to be "hidden" in the vatican library. Which is closed to all but the "most trusted" catholic "priests".

We have had this semi confirmed by an ex monk/priest, turned Druid, up in the Scottish Highlands, who was at the vatican for a two year "sabatical", working in the library.

(Obviously "most trusted" is sometimes...falsely placed  )

"Heehee, pretty much, although Kali's a bit more of an "I love you, and that is why I am gonna cut your head off, it's for your own good" kind of woman."

Ah, THAT'S why I like her!! Definitely sounds like me sometimes!

I can't wait to hear about all these deities. I've been looking into a Celtic goddess of the streams... I can't remember her name right now...

But I'm going to do some searching and when I have an article, I'll post on her. ;)

Encyclopedia Mythica says:
by Micha F. Lindemans
Ran is the goddess of storms, and the wife of the sea god Aegir. She rules over the realm of the dead which is situated on the bottom of the ocean. She sinks ships and collects drowned sailors in her nets and takes them to her hall where she tenderly ministers them (drowned persons neither go to Valhalla nor to Helheim). With Aegir she is the mother of nine daughters (the billows), who wore white robes and veils.

Article "Ran" created on 03 March 1997; last modified on 20 November 1997 (Revision 2). 78 words.

Sounds like fishing in reverse    Instead of the humans catching the fish, the gods are catching the humans.

Seriously thats awesome.

Anyway. In my last post on a different thread I said something about the Horned God and Pan, now I am asking are they the same god? or are they Different? And which one is considered the Christian Satan?

I replied to your question on the other thread :-D I believe 'the Horned God' to be a generic term because different cultures have developed independant gods with horns who look after forests, hunting, fertility and wildlife. Pan is the Greek 'horned god', but there are many, many more.

I believe Pan to be the inspiration behind the Christian image of Satan because other horned gods seem to take after stags whereas Pan has the legs and horns of a goat, just like Satan is supposed to. In traditional images of Pan, he sometimes has a great big *whistle* jutting out in front of him and a great big grin on his face...perhaps this has more to do with Pan being equated with the devil...after all, people aren't supposed to enjoy sex are we? It's supposed to be a sin, so an ancient god of wild things and sexual encounters must surely be a representation of the devil. There's Christian logic for you!

Oh yeah right we aren't suppose to enjoy sex, I keep forgetting that part     ANd di you know something (COMPLETLY OFF THE SUBJECT) We have a guy in our neighbor hood who is on the Sexual preditors list because he was going pee with the bathroom door closed and his 4 yo daughter walked in, is that ridculous or what? And my husband even said that being as open with my kids as I am about sex, it could get me into trouble with the law. I just thought that was a bunch of BS, Hubby says it's up to the school to teach our kids Sex education.

What a bunch of Hooy

Y'know that's one of the reasons I'd make an awful Christian

Poor guy! Yeah, there are people over here who have been put on registers for stupid things like that. When I was four I used to go to the swimming pool with my Dad and cos my Mum can't swim, I used to go in the changing rooms with him and he'd put my swimming costume on me and stuff. That's probably illegal these days.

Seriously, DON'T leave it to schools to explain sex to your kids or you may end up Granny SageWolf really early  area of Wales has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the whole of Europe because parents don't bother to talk about sex with their kids and schools only talk about the biological factors, never about the emotional ones. My parents have always been open with me and my story is first kissed a guy at 17, was with my boyfriend a year before we slept together for the first friend however never talked about sex at home, only heard about it in school and now she has a kid. She's about 6 months younger than I am, so she'll be 21 soon :-?

Are you kidding me My son knows how to put a condom on already, he is 12 but We used a cucumber and showed him how to do it, I warned him I don't want to be a grandma when he is 16, I love children I really do but nope I don't want that to happen. I've always been open with my kids about it. I don't want them to learn how I learned, I didn't knwo what exactly what sex was till I had it.

Well I'm off for now

That's pretty much the way it works around here too. I'm grateful that my parents explained things to me, although we never did the condom/cucumber thing!
