Why there is no "Xtian Pornography"

Welcome to Fundies! Here you can discuss, vent about, or bash fundamentalists of all persuasions. That means pagan fundies, too.

Why there is no "Xtian Pornography"

Post by dragonflydrummer » Sun Jul 10, 2005 7:38 am

In an earlier post on another thread, the question came up as to the existence of Xtian Pornography. The very idea seemed ludicrous. I wondered why. Here's a possible reason which seems to make logical sense to me:

The Fundamentalists seek to unify humanity, but don't want a unity that comes from equality and civil rights; they want unity that comes from everyone subjugating themselves to the state, to leaders, who know how to "stay the course," and know what's best for everyone. Only the troublemakers, sinners, and perverse don't want to be part of this great unity. Because pleasure leads us away from this subjugation--personal pleasure is selfish--we've got "state" religion that emphasizes mortification of the flesh. More often than not the workplace becomes the altar of that mortification. They want us to work A LOT.

So pornography is counter to the Xtian mindset -- not so much for any inherent "sinfulness" (whatever that would be), but because it operates against their overall vision of a hierarchy -- with the Fundies (of course) at and near the top of that pyramid.

Does this make sense?

Actually, I take the exact opposite stance.

Most pornographers are, or at lest consider themselves to be, christian.

Several high-profile christian television preachers have gotten themselves into serious trouble over sex. Jim Baker comes to mind...

Last, isn't porn generally a very controlled fantasy about sex? And don't the fundies have as their fantasy, total control of sex?

I guess, not only are christians associated with porn, but fundies have a great connection to bondage?

To me the Fundies see the human body - particularly and sometimes ONLY the FEMALE body - as disgusting: a landmine on the path to eternal bliss. But so many of them - because they lock up their bodies and starve themselves of carnal bliss - take solace in pornography and - *shudder, vomit* - kiddie porn. (why why why?!!)
At this point in time I would like to mention that I really am not, uh, literate in the subject of pornography.
But of what I know and have seen religions and such that are more open to sexuality and the beauty of their bodies do not make much or watch as much porn as those who sit in the dark with the blinds shut tight to secretly indulge to make up for it. (I think of the Love------Hate guy from Donnie Darko here... great movie.)
I'm sorry my mind is a bit of a haze at the moment... Does this make sense?

at risk of every one now thinking I'm a total porn mad person... urm... I'm on this site were people basically submit there own stories of ANY genre thinkable... there is literally no barriers.. and some of it is pretty... not completely messed up. and some of the really really REALLY wrong stuff has in the Bio - Christian. but then you get the ones that go onto the stories...read it all... then say hows its awful and sinful to even contemplate such desires... i want to know how they found the site in the 1st place...

My sister stayed very christian for a bit and used to lecture my brother who was pagan about watching porn..... they made up for some seriously interesting arguments to watch when i was a kid :D....

to clarify a wee bit...

Post by dragonflydrummer » Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:39 am

Yes. I wasn't saying that Xtians don't use pornography. I think any life philosophy which is so set on an ideal, and is so out of touch with nature, would produce many adherents who fall prey to "temptation" (heh, heh.)

What I was addressing is the Xtian "party line" for lack of a better phrase. Why are the physical enjoyments of love so very taboo in that faith? An answer of "Because God wants it so!" just doesn't cut it as an answer to any but the followers. But -- what do they really accomplish in making the enjoyment of pleasure wrong? It seems like because this aspect of our natures gets so repressed in the Xtian mindset -- all sorts of pornographic monsters begin to stir.
:occasion7:

That's sorta of what I'm scratching at here...

I think that question confuses us all *scratches head*
Why is it taboo? How can something so wonderful be viewed as so horrible?
My personal thought makes me think of 1984. You control every aspect of someone's life, you make them afraid, you make them feel ashamed and starve them of something they have a right to, and they don't have the strength nor will to leave you.
Yay O_O

My 2 cents ^___^

i muat agree with all of you. i agree that everything is good to me (brown eyes). i think that everything is good in itself, or at least has some good in it. i also agree with the rest of you that when you deprive yourself of physical pleasure, your mind gets a little whacked. and i think i figured out why they they call sex bad *unrolls scrol of paper and puts on funky-looking reading glasses* : maybe they think that if you resist, you become stronger. either that, or they have a very jealous god and he doesn't want you to share your love with someone else.

whatever. thanx for listening to my musings.

Well, given the fact that the Bible forbids pre-mariatal sex, it hardly wonders.
However....taken into account when(!) that was written, sheds a different light on things.(when you get married at age 12, you probably want to abstain from sex before that 8-) )

Well, it's not quite pornography, but have a look at this:

http://www.integrityintimates.com/

They have some christian lingerie for sale, and also a book called "Holy Sex" (presumably with nice photos).

One really has to wonder.....

 I wonder if you can get a big vibrating glow-in-the-dark crucifix to wear around your waist for when you put on the leopard-skin patterned shorts...? For reproductive purposes only (of course...)

*snort*

$15 for a pre-packaged box of rose petals for a 'Bed of Roses'. A fool and his money are easily parted. I should try doing something like this myself one day.

Hmm. Catch phrases for Christian Romance/sex sites?

teehee. That just makes me giggle. I bet quite a few prudish fundie women would their knickers in quite a wad.

I know I'm jumping in this conversation a little late, but.....

I think one of the reasons that sex is so taboo in xtian theology is bc sex gives women power. We all know that men want and need sex. They think about it VERY often. Women hold that key. Unless you subjugate women. Make them totally submissive with no say-so in the matter. Little more than servants that men can own and use when ever they want. You just can't let women realize how much power they truly have. It would throw a terrible wrench in patriarchy. That's one reason women are so vibrantly portrayed as temptresses, evil things trying to lure men onto unholy roads straight to Hell. We can't let men give over the power that women inherently have.

I don't think I'm really making sense. But maybe you get the meaning in my rambling. I'll come back when I can be more coherent.
