Paranormal State......oh my......

Post by Scathach » Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:33 pm

Yes, I know that this is a sub-fora for multimedia that is POSITIVE to paganism, but I just don't know where to put this.

I've watched a few episodes of Paranormal State, the new A&E show that purports to follow Penn State's Paranormal Research Society. Penn State, by the way, has been trying to shut them down for some time now. It must have been terrible for them when news of the show came along, "publicity for the University, Paranormal Research Society, publicity for the University,Paranormal Research Society......"

To those who like this show, I apologise in advance. Truthfully, I kind of like it too, in a cheerful, watch the train wreck sort of way......

The first thing that impressed me was the errie sensation that I was watching a Scooby Doo episode. I expected Thelma to come out and perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram....... oh......that's right.....Thelma DID come out and perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram,(actually no, it wasn't Thelma, it was their Occult Specialist, who I think is a freshman...).

Whenever I watch this, I get this really...errr.....really nasty desire to watch them come across a house so haunted, that it is the demon of all haunted houses. A real huffing, puffing, blow-the-paranormal-investigators-down demon of a house. Something worthy of a book and three or four movies, you know? I want to see these kids run out scared out of their wits. This..........is why I watch...........

Why am I so mean? Why does this show MAKE me so mean. Is it the Christian assumptions? No, people are always best working with what they know. Is it their age? Well..... no, not really, I've seen some brilliant occultists who were quite young. Is it..... I KNOW what it is......it's the gestalt! It's all those things together! The youth, the spooky Satan stuff, the bad acting........it's Scobby Doo! The problem is that in Scooby Doo, the supposed paranormal events were all disproved at the end of the show, but on Paranormal State that never happens. On paranormal state, the spooky Satan stuff gets upheld, people watching get real scared and start looking around for demons, we all know what happens when THAT starts up.

Not only that, but the badly acting kids always seem to fix everything by the end, and there's a subplot where their director is being hunted by a demon. So, I will wait patiently for them to run into the Bilasco house. I will wait for the episode "Amittyville Horror 5!" I will wait and watch.......

Yikes. I've never seen that one.

I watch Ghost Hunters on SciFi. They actually try to disprove things and approach things with open minds.

Though, they've caught some interesting footage...like a moving chair in the attic of a lighthouse...and a face in another lighthouse.

OH well...just another show to list on the "don't waste my time" note.

Actually, Ghost Hunters isn't a bad show. It's more interesting, more believable, and well, much.....much.....classier. Still I heartily reccomend Paranormal State. You will definely find it to be a real HOOT! And I really want to see if you start routing for the demons..... I know I am......

Hmm, shame I never liked Scooby Doo, then isn't it? Because this might amuse me!

I've actually waited for them(the scooby-doo peeps) to run into some kind of negative forcefield type of thing, get trapped inside the haunted house thingier, and some vengeful ghosties destroying the peeps sanity little by little until they all breakdown and eventually either a) kill themselves or b) die....
I don't know why exactly, but that show has scared me since I was a child. Not because it had oddly dressed bad actors but because of the fact that the characters were always a bit...too perky, for the lack of a better word.

Ooh! Ooh! I want them to come across Eldritch Fiends from the Dungeon Dimensions!

Or a room that has "Ia, Ia!" and "Cthulhu Fh'tagn!" scrawled over it in blood, and then they all go insane and die in interesting ways! :D Obviously in such a manner that the rest of the world isn't destroyed by aforesaid fiends from the Dungeon Dimensions.

The town I went to uni in and the city I live in were both mentioned in the Call of Cthulhu. 8-) Lovecraft wins points for his mad NZ references.

I can actually understand why Scoob and Shaggy where perky, they hit the one hitter alot, ya know, Ever wonder why Scooby and Shaggy ate such weird food and in large quantities? :weedman: And I've never really met anyone who has smoked it and not been happy. but the others, No guess on that one, And is it just me or is Fred incredibally gay? (I have nothing against Gay people , but why hide it? I think that is what Bothers me the most,Anyway another long story LOL)

Ok I think I've lost myself, what was the subject again?

Ah don't get me started on Scooby Doo! I know the words to the themesong by heart - although I must admit, not because I was ever a big fan of the show. Now, the South Park spoof with KoRn, oh baby!
