Must....have.....sleep........ :(

Post by Whitewolf » Thu Sep 30, 2004 5:25 am

Since my father moving to his next life last week, I have been suffering from insomnia. I have been getting no more than 2 hours sleep for the last week and a half. Lastnight, I got roughly 30 minutes.

It has started affecting my daily life, and my job. Luckily, I work with and for people who are very understanding.

I have tried camomille (sp?) tea, lavendar incense, lavendar baths etc. Nothing seems to be helping. Does anyone have any good ideas on herbal or incense aids to help me sleep? I am trying to stay away from manufactured drugs with all the other meds I am on, and I am open to anything at this point.

Thanks in advance.

valerian...I have read that is has helped many with sleeping prob. But it works best when with chamomile, kava, and passionflower. I think you can take them as teas...I would just light them as Incence or something...But wht ever you want.
try that for a week or so...if it doesnt work try melatonin...Its a synthetic version of the body's own sleep hormone...But Ive read that it helps mostly if the Insomnia if its caused by chronic pain...so Im not really sure if that shall work for you...
Im not sure if you want to do this but One of the most respected Wiccans I know Sarah...One of my friends Is getting me a spell for it and maybe you might want to try that...But only if you wish too...I might want to try it because Lately I cant get to sleep at night... any ways here it is:

light an insense, and visualize the smoke entering your body. feel and hear your heartbeat and chant 3 times (quieter and quieter each time ) lady give me rest, lord give me peace, allow me calmness, that within me sleeps" youll be asleep by the time the insense goes out

Id say use an incence that has to do with rest and all that jazz...so yea.

Thanks Fairydust. I will definitely gather some of these this weekend to try. Last night was a littler better. I got about 2 and a half hours.

This weekend I am really going to find something to knock me out. I just don't want to resort to Jack Daniels, a heavy hammer, or a brick wall. ](*,)

I actually had a bout of total insomnia last week - I wasn't sleeping AT ALL for about 3 days. I mean, I'd get maybe an hour a night if I was lucky. Come to find out that it was the allergy meds - one of the decongestants had manifested one of it's bad side effects - insomnia. I'm just glad it didn't manifest an allergic reaction ;) and so was my doc. Stopped that one right away LOL. Fortunately, pollen is almost done!! Yeah baby!

I GOT TO SLEEP. YAY. I did just about everything this weekend to sleep. Not sure what worked, but something did. I burned about 5 different kinds of incense, drank a couple of teas, and did a little sleep spell from my friend Fairydust. Thanks all for your encouraging words.

I am happy that you got sleep.....I know insomnia all too well. You have to very careful with valerian because it is what the drug volume (sp?) is made of.......There is a tea made by celestial seasons called sleepy time extra (has a safe amount of valerian in it) at a relatively cheap price and found at the grocery.

I love celestial seasons teas. The Camomille (sp) is one of my normal ones for the evening.

What I did was went to the "alternative" shop near my home and asked the guy who runs it what he had. He wouldn't tell me what it was, but told me to try it and let him know what happens. So, I have to let him know it seemed to have worked (along with everything else I did) and see if he will tell me what was in it. But at any rate, I feel very well today.

If you really need to sleep, make a homeade tea with chammomile, valerian and peppermint in the measurement of 2 parts/2 parts/ 1 part and brew it with about as much as would be in 3 or 4 teabags for a cup.

If a mild sedative is going to help, that would do it. While I do not recommend playing around with it, you can also add roughly 1/2 part mugwort to the above as well. That will usually cause the drinked to sleep fairly well, but be careful, because mugwort can be dangerous if abused or used irresponsibly. (and yes, I know the other uses too, but won't get into them in public chat, as I don't want to encourage young'ens)

Glad it's improving, and my best wishes.

I found that what helped was to get out of bed (when I realised I wasn't just gonna drop off), do some very gentle stretches, and then spend a few minutes deep breathing.

Chanting also works very well (some call it toning) - the kind where you repeat one vowel over and over. "OM" is nice. (*understatement*)

Personally I try not to use herbs because I haven't yet the skill to "prescribe" properly. No truck with "it's natural, it can't hurt you" stuff... tell that to a mamba

Most of the herbs you can buy locally are fairly safe, so there's not too much of a worry. You just have to be careful with any of the ones marked "poison". The 'poison' marking doesn't mean not to be used, but it does mean not to be used without training and guidance, as it can be dangerous. Most of the simple things though like valerian, chamomile, primrose, hybiscus, kava, etc. are fairly safe though.

Wow everyone has given lots of good advice.
Valerian is the main insomnia herb on the market, and you can get herbal insomnia pills with it in it. NOT good to use this much, but in occasional cases to get you back on track it is good.

You need something to help you short-term. Everyone has given lots of good advice, and to avoid repeating I want to share information no one has mentioned.
Do you have friends who practice energy medicine? This would be very beneficial at this time, I think, considering the loss of your father (for which you have my deep condolences). We all have cords that attach us to the people we love, and when one passes on, these cords go through changes. It could be that something's up with this cord that is causing your insomnia. The emotional wounds and grieving would certainly be helped by energy medicine as well. If you do not know anyone who practices energy medicine, look in the phonebook for Reiki practitioners, Theraputic Touch, etc. With your permission I would like to send some distance Reiki tonight to help with sleep.

Meditate, I also suggest. If it doesn't help you sleep, it at least gets you into a relaxed state that is refreshing and like sleep. Meditate on bringing white light into your body from the sky, and green light into your body from Mother Earth. (Mother Earth, Father Sky.) The meditation should be about an hour long, or more if you can. Less is all right.

Good luck! I am sure your father is happy in the Otherworlds. *hugs*
