Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Post by Rowan » Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:18 am

I'm sure a number of you have noticed a movie being released in a week and a half by the same name, but it started out as a book series.

I just finished book one last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it's for teens/young adults, but I find myself attracted to that genre. The author, Rick Riordan, makes a lot of the mythology of the Greeks very accessible and interesting to kids over the boring stuff in school. I mean do you ever recall likening Ares to a big bad biker dude?? ;) Plus it's another pagan topic. :-D

Google search "Ares Xena"...and the images that come up will show you that yes, I can see the God of War as a biker dude...since that show's characterization of Ares is the first thing I think of when I do think of him. (http://web.mac.com/orangelamb/xena/char ... C/ares.jpg) Though, in the picture I linked too, he's laughing...the costume is really what I was aiming to show.

I might have to check it out...despite the fact that I was one of those rare nerdy kids who devoured mythology. I mean, come on, some of those stories were one step away from PORN! What high school kid WOULDN'T like that? I found it amusing that when I pointed it out, my class suddenly had a new appreciation for Greek/Roman myths!
You say "Witch" like it's a bad thing!

I saw an ad for this the other night. I had to stop mid-conversation because it grabbed my attention so completely.

I'd never actually heard of this series, but that wouldn't stop me from picking it up. A lot of Y/A stuff is actually laced with stuff for the older reader.

And just knowing that if I watch closely, I can yell "I know her!" and point madly at the screen every time CHL shows up makes me want to see the movie anyway.

Saw the preview to it yesterday when we popped into the cinemas to (finally) see avatar 3d. Like Davish, it grabbed my attention .. Even though I could tell it was mostly aimed at the younger folk. It looks interesting, so I won't be surprised to see me watching that movie, or picking up the books at some point :-D

Does that mean I can assume "Mr. Bond" isn't just a human servant? :-"

I haven't read the books, but I think he's gotta be Zeus or one of the other major deities, just from the previews.

And to see Crazy in leather armor as a sword-wielding amazon... I'm not a guy, but our Crazy is a very hot lady! :-# I'll be there with bells on! :-D

The one I'm waiting for now "The Sorcerers Apprentice" with Nicholas Cage. Not only do the previews look cool, but me and Grimwell were discussing it. He said that he couldn't see Nicholas Cage as a Wizard. I asked him if he really couldn't see Nicholas Cage with knowledge that the rest of us don't have and being imbalanced because of it. Suddenly, he agrees that he's a great man for the job. :-"

  Oh my!

I don't think you will get to see as much of me as in New Moon, but getting paid to spend 3 days in one of the most beautiful remote forests of the area, wear armour and jog, not to mention standing right next to an ACTUAL movie star, that was pretty sweet. There were so many interesting people, too! I sold a lot of Rhodiola that day, as well O_O Apparently teens don't like getting up at 3am.

I think it's going to be a good one. Some bits may be a bit dry, but looking at the special effects, it will be pretty cool in 3D.

It'll be awesome to see the movie.

And don't sell yourself short Crazy. I have no problem seeing you as an amazon warrior (I'd expect healer, but warrior works too). It'll be fun to see it.

And I love telling friends of mine that a friend of mines in the movie.
