Vegetarian Spider?

Post by Kystar » Tue Oct 13, 2009 3:36 pm

Here you go, gang...and CHL, when you get back, I think you'll be amused! Found this on Digg, the article is from the National Geographic website!

A Vegetarian SPIDER.
A new discovery has taken the bite out of spiders' status as meat-eaters.

A tropical jumping spider that eats mostly plant buds has been identified, a new study says—making it the only known vegetarian out of some 40,000 spider species.

Woot! Love vegetarians!!!

Actually, that is very interesting. Nature is just so cool sometimes.

Not completely vegetarian I notice, though... It mentions that it still eats some ant larvae occasionally.

Is that like the "Vegetarians" among us that say "But I will eat chicken and fish on occasion"?

Cool info, but I didn't read the full story as I'm sure there are photos and I don't like spiders. *shudders*
I have lost my way.

You don't need to worry Rowan. There's only one picture, and I'm an arachnophobe as well.

Eh, I was Looking at it like the vegetarian who will eat eggs or cheese...but not chicken.

Interesting way that spider evolved to live in a situation where his "prey" outnumbered him 50-1, on a slow day. "Eh, I try and eat the ants and they'll kill me...so I'll eat parts of the tree...I can dodge them!"

LOL
