Dead proud of my Mrs so I am....

Post by Ragnar » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:40 am

For the re-enactment, Lisa produces double A4 newspaper thingy. In old German script, all about various things she has found in her research from the time.

She sent of a copy to Georg Friedrich Prinz von Preußen, who WOULD be Kaiser today, had it not been for a slight neighbourly tiff 1914 to 1918.

After three months she gets a reply.

She has been "Royaly ordered to supply a copy of every issue to the Royal house". AND she may now print on the news sheet "By Royal appointment to the house of Hohenzollern, former Regents of Prussia and dominions, and Georg Friedrich Prinz von Preußen".

THATS bloody GREAT.... what?

Woot! Woot!

It is great when things like that happen.
I'm living in the Shadows and the Night,
Wrapped in warm darkness, safe and sure.
My Path shines by the Moon's fragile light,
It frees my Mind and keeps my Heart pure.

Some times. But it mut be remembered there never WAS a set "German" before the Brothers Grimm wrote their, unfourtunately unfinished, dictionary of the German tongue.

sein, meaning his/hers/its was spelled seyn. Tor (Gate way) was Thor. Bein (leg) was Beyn, and so on.

we also write every thing in the old script.....lets see if I have any on Photobucket.....

Hope this works;

Hmmm not quite. The "st" has come out as a question mark. But that gives you an idea of what I mean by "old script".

DAMN, good job I noticed that, I need the print out for tomorow morning.

That is with the spelling from 1870 till 1998. Since 1998 they have had the "spelling reform" because the kids of today were finding it too hard to learn (!!!).

So bloody beat it into their thick skulls as it was ALWAYS done! NOW we have a situation where even my boss, a graduate in German language science, is getting things sent back because of "spelling mistakes". Ie he is spelling it PROPERLY, but tHATS O.K because the darlinmg little bastards are now finding school SOOOO much easier. We can not go stressing them out with things like LEARNING now can we?

Hm.

Rant over. Sorry about that, it ios opne of my hobby horses.

She does. an hour or two EVERY day, and near to events it can be 16 hours at a strech with the computer, goimg to the printers, and folding/packing.

Trouble is you could never live off it. And even if you could, it then becomes a different thing. No longer a hobby.
