Cat Lady?

Post by Willow » Fri Sep 16, 2005 7:17 pm

I have a kitten!!!!!
She is a little beige Tabby named Marmot that I adore. And ... one of my friends just suckered me into taking another kitten (something about Marmot needing a friend).
I am going to name this one Vache (french for cow) because she is black and white splotchy.
However I am being called a cat lady, I think I just have too much love to give!
Anyway I thought that was some awesome news based on how many cat people we have on the board.
Blessings

I agree: 5+ to be called cat lady :P Anything with "Lady" on the end or "Crazy" at the beginning turns out to be a weird compliment ^_^ My friend started calling me Crazy Healer Lady, and then all did, and thus I am known as such.

Crazy Cat Lady ^_^ Throw your kitties at random people, yelling out ramblings in tongue!!

Okay, don't throw the kitties!

I can't vote on the poll as there's no 5 or more option and three isn't enough to be the crazy cat lady.

I would say that anything over five. Unless you're breeding cats, anything over five cats per one person is alittle much.

Yeah, I agree with everyone. 5+ is a cat lady. 10+ is a horder and needs help.

3 is a large family. I should know, we had 3 cats in one house. 2 were my roommate's fur babies, and 1 was mine. It's kind of lonely sometimes with just one kitty butt. When we own our own house, (renting, landlord won't allow a 2nd cat) I'll probably get my Noche a friend.

We just acquired our third kitty. Ok, actually he acquired us. ;) I don't see myself as a crazy cat lady. I'll agree on the 5+ with everyone else. Although I think 4 is really pushing it. At least I will think that until #4 moves in.

I don't know about cat-LADY, but we have 3 cats.

OK, with us things are a bit different, seeing that they are "working cats" (rodent control in our farm sheds).

3 is probably not a good number, because there seems to be 2 ganging up against the other one. Probably time to get 2 more.....

I voted 3 or more, but really it's 5 or more, and as was mentioned, anything over 10 is likely a hoarder. My neighbor who we talked about before is up to about 30 and get this - ANIMAL CONTROL was AT HER HOUSE - NOT to talk to her about too many cats, but to bring her MORE CATS (which, I believe, she took out to the shelter as they were 'wild').

Anyhow, we are now up to 3 - even though we weren't at ALL in the market for another cat. She was unwanted, in a home where she was severely disciplined if she even looked at furniture (she's de-clawed, so she couldn't hurt it, just sit on it) - punishment was holding her up in front of said item she may have gotten up on, shaking her hard and saying "BAD BAD BAD". The person didn't think there was anything wrong with that  Anyhow, it was a person who worked with my husband, and said person must have had some guilt about the cat because when we went to see the cat (and fell in love with her) we said we couldn't take her unless she passed a FLV test. Person paid for test AND all shots AND vet checkup - then had us come pick her up that night.

Poor girl had it rough before coming to us - first I think someone had her as a pet as a kitten, then dumped her. She lived on the street a while, going from resturant to resturant for food. Person who works for hubby has a son who worked at one of the resturants. He took cat in, had her spayed & declawed. She lived with him about a year, he got a dog, dog attacked and chased cat, cat was dumped at his parents house with a note. Parent is a clean freak with a perfect house, and though she seemed to care about cat, couldn't control her reactions when cat got up on things - hence severe discipline. But cat is so loving and needy - always wants on lap - also bothered woman, because cat shed heavily & had dandruff, mostly due to being fed nothing but the cheapest dollar store dry food. We also found out that something must have been done to cat with a broom because when I got out the broom she almost killed herself in a blind panic of running away.

But the story ends well - now Alley is in a happy home with two brothers who love her (amazing how our two neutered males, afraid of her at first, now love her to pieces), she gets all of the Fancy Feast cat food she wants as well as only the best dry food made (Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul), and she doesn't get yelled at for anything. She's been here almost two weeks and still has a ways to go, but she finally knows it's OK to sleep on the bed, couch or chairs - though she still looks guilty about it and needs reassured. She loves to be held and petted and kissed and sung silly pretty kitty songs to. We didn't want another cat but we are glad she's become part of our family - I think we were guided to her on purpose somehow because though many folks have offered us cats, we've never felt compelled to say we'd consider it, let alone go look at any of them.

So now we have our two boys, Master Po - 6 yrs old and Samwise - 2 yrs old and our new girl, Alley, who the vet estimates is anywhere from 2-4 yrs old. So, if 3 cats makes me a cat lady - I'm guilty as charged :-D

Aw!!! So cute!!

My sister's cat Candy had much the same life. She was adopted from a pet store WAY too early to be taken from her mother by a boy, who brought her home, and his father threw her into a ditch. We don't know what else he did, but I can imagine, because she was so afraid of males for many many years, until my cat Naucho died and she went through a major grieving (as I did). (Yes, they were both named after food.) She is very old now, and when she was a kitten my dog attacked her (she was a young pup, a sweety afterwards, very unlike this dog) and she has had this big bubble on her stomach ever since. It's like my dog's mouth was a big staple and just stapled a big bunch of flesh and organs into this round ball. Her stomach is easily upset, and she doesn't like people touching her belly, but other than that she is fine. Has been living with it for about 11-12 years. She's needy now, when she was the most skittish thing ever, and she loves my boyfriend and me now that my sister cannot give her attention due to a baby. It is amazing how much she loves Reiki (since I gave it to her once, she hounds me!!). The only problem is she sheds lots (gets fed good food, pet lots, but since she is so old her fur is a little rough) and kneads dough in your legs or your stomach or wherever else and her claws are sharp! Plus she drools, and cannot sit still when you pet her: has to circle around you and rub you and claw your legs to shreds. Still, she gets cuddles and Reiki.
We only have 2 cats: my sister's (Candy) and mine (a male named Niles, the funniest and most beautiful tabby ever, but, I am biased ^_^)
Okay enough. It is 1:30 am and I have to get up early!!! Look to Spirituality VS Lovers and you will understand why

My Sapphire's family has four kitties.

Mom and Dad have two cats, Roxanne and Baby (poor baby only has one eye now) Her little brother has Peanut (the most skilled huntress I've ever met) And she and I have Ailin. He's almost a year and a half and such a sweet boy. He does have a thing for ripping pine to peices, so we'll have to get him a pine scratching post or something when we get our house.

Of course, this is nothing compared to the number of showdogs that we have.

7 Afghan hounds:

Hillary and Spencer - the Dominos
Dorrah - our little creme girl
Sammy and his daughter Danaid (no pictures of her yet)
Finnegan - our Brindle boy
India - Our Blue girl who will hopefully be mommy to Finnegan's puppies soon.

Also we have the Gordon Setters
Stormy, her daughter Ivy, and Kieran

Skye, the last of the shelties. He's 12 and fading fast :(

And last but not least; Casper, the English Setter (who looks and acts more like a Spanial) He's our rescue dog who looks like he'll be a permanent resident

Davish, my buddy, my pal :-D

What lovely doggies, surely, with all the grooming you get loads of nice fluffy doggie fur that you pull off the brushes and throw away? Did I mention I am a spinning addict? Don't pitch that fur, send it to me and I'll spin some yarn with it :-D (seriously, no joke, I can spin dog fur into yarn - do it with my cats undercoat, though I mix it with a bit of wool to make it spin easier).

Now that I'm done begging for fur lol - those are some absolutely beautiful hounds! And they look spoiled, as all pets should be ;)

I KNEW IT!!! I knew it was possible!!! My parents always said I couldn't spin the fur from our husky, but lo and behold, it is possible!!!!
I may not freeze in my cabin after all :-x

Hehe. I have a serious mental problem! Give me more cats!

Can't help with the Simpson's quotes. Sorry. :-D

I have one cat, would love to have more animals. Once I find a more settled lifestyle, I'll probably acquire many a critter. Would love to try having a snake. Also want a pack of hounds, but Davisherm seems to have gotten there before me :P
