A "WIN" from a strange source.

Post by Ragnar » Sat Dec 29, 2007 8:33 am

I was listening to BBC world service today

In Russia they have a REALLY old tradition of "Father frost", who is Father Ullr, or "Father christmas" to the rest of us.

Father frost brings the presents on New years eve.

An advertising company chose to take the p**s out of the tradition.

PUTIN himself took them to court.

His grounds;

"Parents and teachers tell the kids about Father frost. In that they (advertisers) attempted to bring down his image, and belief in such, they have been guilty of undermining parents and teachers credibility."

The case was won, and the firm were finned and ordered "Don't bloody do it again Laddie" (Only in Russian).

FATHER FROST LIVES!

Have a Wodka on me Mr Putin.

Wow...that's really cool.

Traditions are just as important as advancement.

I'll drink to that, I agree with Kystar you don't know where your going if you don't know where you've been.

For the guy to take it to court though makes me wonder what kind of life he has had to be that kind of butthead

I don't think it's right for a company to trash out a traditional figure that features in childhood fantasies just to make money.

That someone stood up to them and told them they're being brats...and made them stop is a good thing, I think.

Yes I read that article. Very interesting. They made a big deal to show that they were not condoning the man.

Russia, like Scottland, are a bunch of VERY individualy minded, ill disciplined, "barbarians", who take no messing. (Which I, off course am NOT.... )

They NEED a person of strong, authoritarian personality to ever get them to DO any thing.

Putin is the right man, as William Wallace was in Scottland.

OH those Aussies!!! (Sorry.. Ra Ra Rasputin is stuck in my head ;) )

I have got to study up on Putin more. He's kind of been at the back of my political research, which has been dominated mostly by local tyrants.

As a kid, Rasputin was of huge interest to me! It was obvious the guy had some sort of power, whether it was pure charisma/charm, spiritual power, or dark magic was never clarified enough for me. After all, from what I remember being told of how much it took to kill him... Well, I only wish that if people are ever trying to kill me, that I'll be equally hard to kill! :-D And I loved the song!

Darn it, now I want to go and find a good book on him, "The Life and Times of Rasputin" or some-such.

Ah well, I'll put it on my list for when I actually have cash again.
