I might have to invest in that book, since at this point I'm pretty ashamed to admit I'm American!

Ragnar, that is exactly why I want the book, lol. On my last trip to the UK I could tell whenever people found out we were American, they'd kind of hold their breath, waiting to find out if we were "Bush supporting" Americans or if we actually had intelligence enough to hate him, and be embarrassed of what he's done. As soon as we would proclaim our dislike for Bush people immediately became much more at ease around us. It was actually sort of funny to watch if I hadn't been so embarrassed of having to admit that I was American.

Also, admitting you're American leads to uncomfortable questions like "Well if no one likes him, how did he get elected? And why is he still in office?" All in all it WOULD just be easier to pretend I was Canadian.

The reason they need a book is that they tend to not do any research on being Canadian. If it was just accent trouble, I wouldn't mind, but they get geography wrong...

Example:

Kitsune: I'm Canadian!
American in Hiding: Me Too, eh! Ya hoser!
Kitsune: Right, where are you from in Canada?
American in Hiding: I'm from Alberta.
Kitsune: Really, Me too, Which city?
American in Hiding: Uhh, Toronto... eh...
Kitsune: Toronto isn't in Alberta, it's in Ontario. You're American, aren't you?
American in Hiding(looking worried): Don't question me... I have a Canadian flag on my bag, and I drink Tim Chrientens' coffee every day, you hoser, eh?
Kitsune(gving up): Uh huh, well I've got to be going now...

Sigh... at least do your homework if you're going to pretend to be from a different country. ;)
