The vandals are seldom caught, but the 2001 culprit — 51-year-old American Lawrence Jones — was convicted and spent 18 days in jail.
As an American, I want to SMACK this jerk upside the head forty some times...**Begin Rant Mode** WHO GOES TO ANOTHER COUNTRY AND VANDALIZES ONE OF THEIR HOLIDAY ICONS? WHAT KIND OF IDIOT THINKS IT'S OKAY TO DO THIS? **End Rant Mode**

Bigoted fools.

But I'm glad they didn't just give up and stop putting the big guy up...that would be wrong.
Good luck to the goat!

Yeah, I'm with Kystar. What the hell is wrong with people?? And people wonder why the rest of the world hates Americans...

Anyway, I'll be rooting for the goat! :-D

I almost posted a horribly dirty response to that.

I agree though, there a lot of idiots, but it is a pretty good tradition, I hope it works out.

I'm really tempted to watch the goat-cam, just to be sure...

I'll probally check on it. Honestly though, I'm a horrible person. I wanna know what the vandals will come up this year to take care of the goat.

As much as I want to see the goat survive, I also want to see what incredible lengths people will go to, to surpass a challenge...

Personally, I do not condone distruction via vandalism. I would make it a tradition to destroy the goat.

"They know not what they do..."RIGHT!

It IS the ancient tradition to burn the straw goat, much as it is to burn the Wicca man, or the corn dolly at mid summer.

It is normaly the last thing to go onto the Jule log, before Jule ends. Once that is burned the log is let die.

I do not doubt that this is just vandalism, but may be it's something genetic?

Well not QUITE :violent3:  But The genetic racial memory of what made the Norse/Germanic tribes do that in the first place.

That is one of the differences between us and the desert peasent fetishists. OUR religion is genetic. It is what man did from the very earliest forms of his nature. It was part of the programming in the genes, that it was the right thing to do.

Whereas the desert peasent groups religions are all imposed from a book.

It is like comparing every day life, to a sopa opera. One is imposed from someone elses idea of an ideality, the other is NATURAL.

Or like I do sometimes is spell a word I know what it means and then I read it and I'm like WTF is that? It is a so misspelled word that it's not even a word anymore.

I suspect my main problem is that this is the only site I write English on. Sometimes German spellings are so similar, it is hard to recognise if the English version is spelt wrong. Especially when just writing a quick reply and pressing "send".

Irak, for instance, or Atlantik. Most days I ask my Wife three or four times if various things I am writting are spelled correctly, in English. #-o
