The spirits of the dead are around us all the time. I frequently see "ghosts". Some are familiar to me, such as my father. He visits frequently and just hangs around for a while, smiling at me. My daughters often see him too and find his presence comforting. Other ghosts are unfamiliar. There is one lady in early Victoian dress who has often stood at the foot of my bed since I was a child. I have no idea who she is or why she visits me. In unfamiliar places, particularly old buildings, I will see ghosts but not realise that is what they are until they suddenly vanish!
I have yet to encounter an evil ghost, all that I have met seem either kindly or indifferent. Was your encounter frightening or comforting? What did your ghost look like?

I often feel the spirit of my passed away fiance all around me in my parents house (where i live right now, temperarly) but I don't know if I am feeling the memory of him being there in the past or if he is actually there at that moment.
Its just feelings though, I never see anything.....

Yes, I have seen them... I have felt them... I have one that is an old friend whom died in a car accident long ago ... he likes to visit me when I am in the bath...
He has actually warned me of a few things... I have had some extraordinary experiences with them:
One was when I was about 4 years old... All I remember is having a conversation with a very nice elderly lady, what everyone else remembers goes as follows.
My mother, step father, step brother and I were staying at the Jack London Lodge in Sonoma California... My Ma And Pops stayed in one room, My Bro and I in another. The first morning of our stay my Mom noticed a urine stain on the carpet to the side of our bed ... my brother had been having "problems" with bed wetting.
She cleaned the stain and thought no more of it. The next morning the stain reappeared and she cleaned it again, having a chat with my brother about him making it to the bath room in the night ... he denied doing it.
The third night we were there I remember getting up in the middle of the night, there was a nice lady who wanted to brush my hair. I sat at the edge of the bed while she did ... during this time my brother woke up and swears that all he saw was a brush in the air ... no lady...
The next morning my Mom found that the urine stain reappeared again, she then asked the keeper about it. Turns out an old lady used to live in that room ... one night she had a heart attack and died ... they say that when she died she pee'd herself...
I just remember the nice elderly lady!

I've accually help ghost sisters with their problem.
It was when I was living in GA. I was driving by a house and saw a very beautiful, old house. That night I went inside the abondned house to look around. I walked into one of the front rooms downstaies and the house fell quiet. No sound what so ever. Even the animals outside fell quiet. Then I heard the sound of the old perfume bottle spray. Then I smelled roses. The odd thing was that there wasn't any roses around. The next day I want to the libaray to get some infomation on the house. I then found out that the girls parents were killed in that very house. I kept the info I had recieved and went back that night. I looked for the eveidence that would still be there. The red velvet couch with the blood stains was in the back yard and the letter the killer wrote was in the trick step. Right where she told me. I then felt a precence in the master bedroom. It was her mother and older sister. They were both raped and then killed. The little girl was forced to watch and then she was killed as well.

That is a very sad ghost story... did the girls finally get peace after your encounter with them?
When I was 18 I had 3 girlfriends who were Wicca (didn't really know what that meant at the time) and we used to have girls night once a week. We would paint pots, carve pumpkins, crafts and such... anyway one night one of them brought a Ouija (spelling?) board and although I was a little weary about using it due to past experience (another story for another time) I had this feeling that I should proceed, so I did.
We did contact someone or rather they came to us. A 10 year old girl who existed during World War I... she died from polio, as well as her 2 year old sister. Her mother was from France, her Father an American pilot during the war. She and her sister were born out of wedlock. Her mother was shunned in their neighborhood because of this.
Well, to TRY and make a long story short... after many nights of contact and some research it turned out that their house was on the same land as my friends apartment complex and that I was the 2 year old sister. Our father was a now old acquaintance of mine... Yeah, well, these things happen all of the time... most of us just don't know it.
After this truth was accepted she "passed into the light" as it were and I have not heard from her since. I feel that my being there was destiny and that it was meant to be so that she could finally find peace and that I could know for certain how the wheel doth spin.

Yes Jennicat, the girls found their peace. I really don't know how I helped them except to tell them that their parents were waiting for them on the other side and that they would be safe there.

I have a quick question for you all.
Just recently, I have been seeing things out of the corner of my eye. I know that some people say that is a ghost, but I was wondering what you think? It could just be that my eyes are going.
Also, my sister claimed she saw out of the corner of her eye a dog running in our yard. The funny thing was that our dogs were upstairs at the time.
I never noticed it before. Maybe it is my eyes, but it could be that the "ghosts" are becoming active. I dunno.
What do you have to say?

What kinds of things are you seeing out of the corner of your eye. I ask because that is how it started for me. At first I thought I was going crazy. No one else saw them. Then the ghost began to trust me and even talk to me at times.

Well, it seems to be like an insect or spider. It's relatively small. It often happens when I'm sitting on my bed watching tv. It looks like a spider or shadow crawling across my bed at a very rapid pace. Hope that helps some.

This sounds a lot like how it started for me. Were you in the room alone?

It doesn't need to be a ghost (in the sense of spirit of a deceased human being/animal.) There are the fae, little elemental creatures (sprites, gnomes, etc) and other things. Suggestion: try leaving it an offering (kind of a hello-I-see-you-welcome sort of thing.) It will probably either go away (if it is trying to bother you) or make itself more visible (if it is trying for or is open to more contact.) Sugary stuff is always good...just don't let an animal eat it after it's been offered...there are reasons for the harvesting bans post hallows.

Yeah, I was alone at the time, except for my dog. but she was laying over in the corner where she sleeps.
THe problem with leaving any type of food is the dog will eat it. Are there any other offerings that would work just as well.
I just thought of something. We continually have things disappearing, especially on the level my room is on. We atribute it to gremlins. Maybe its realted to that, whether or not they are really gremlins.

I agree! Figures that you just catch in the corner of your eye are more likely to be Fae than ghosts. In this country there are areas that are plagued with them. Go anywhere near a standing stone or ancient woodland at dusk and you are certain to see them. I sometimes sit very still and wait for them to appear. The trick is never to look directly at them or they vanish in an instant. If you do nothing to frighten them, you can gain their trust and they may starting talking, singing or even touch you. They seem to like touching my ears and gently tugging my beard. I need to keep a tight hold on my staff, since they tug at that too. Any movement I make sends them scurrying away. The Fae can be very dangerous (Fae = perilous in Old English) but I have never been harmed, I suspect that is because I have never tried to harm them.
