Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
Well. I WAS going to start my own thread, BUT, as it is lready here.....
=D>
Turn of the year. Family. Friends. In particular, those that can not be there.
More than any other festival, except Einherrja (Rememberence of the warriors and the dead (which is on the full moon nearest to 21/11) on no other festival do I feel closer to my ancestors, and fellow Heathens.
It is like a "group hug", that we have survived winter, and we can go on to make the next year better than the last.
It is like sitting on a time bomb, where the result is an explosion of green shoots, and new crops.
It is THE festival of "looking foreward", of optimism and hope.
ACH JA!
MERRY JULE you all!
May your fields always feed you, your hearth always warm you, and your house always protect you.

.....
I think I got REALLY screwed up on the New YEar's.
CHL will know who I'm talking about - but I actually told her something very delicate and secret via text message. And, well...

Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
Ragnar! Congrats on having snow this Jule!
It's just not Solstice for me if the ground isn't white. The last few years have been heaven for me, finally!
I must admit, as much as I would like to live in a warm county, I don't think I could. Living without snow would kill me and I yearn for it in the winter months. Unfortunately, this means that when I'm rich (or simply have enough of a writing career to write full time), I won't be looking for a quiet place in BC... More likely a quiet acerage in the mountains or something.
I can't wait to see the pictures!

Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
Pictures should come sometime later today. I thought yesterday, but then I discovered that I had about 600 on my ....hmm Speicherkarte...saving thingy, to work through. Ie to size and edit.
Now I just have to pick the best and upload them to Photo fu...Bucket, and then here.
There MUST be an easier way than this...

Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
Na. Here they are;

My Street.

Jule tree decoration typical in Germany/Sweden/Norway.

Garten.

Alsi in the garden. The old wheelbarrow. NORMALLY like an explosion in a paint factory in summer.

First view from the bedroom winsow Jue morning.

Garden

Garden again (It is pretty big for a city center house!)

Hello dinner!

The local railway station. Never seen it in snow before. Normally we go in the other direction.
Apparantly it is an architectural "wonder"...???
Aye right! I am still wondering as well.

Wow, BEAUTIFUL pictures! Did Lisa do the wheelbarrow? Is the garden for everyone in your building, or specifically yours? Either way, it looks absolutely gorgeous

Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
The garden is contained in the back corner of an "L" shaped group of flats. , containing 3 "houses". 8 flats per hpose. so the garden belongs to all. But except for grill patzys, and the "Tuesday Skat club" of which maximum ofhalf the neighbours attend, the garden is as good as "your own".
I put out the bird feeders, and Horst (a neighbour who was here when the house was hit by a Katyusha Rocket in 1945, and has never lived anywhere else (80 or so I think he is)), puts out, and keeps the squirral feeder full of nuts and stuff.
He also takes care of the old wheelbarrow.
But any one COULD do it. But we leave it for him, as it appears to have become his hobby.
Unusaualy, this year, the snow is still here, and we are forecast up to another 20 CM Saturday/Sunday, with no thaw in between. So next Monday, the rush hour could be ...."fun" I believe they call it. I will just E-Mail in and inform the boss I am working from home.

Sounds fantastic. Isn't it nice being one of the only people who like to take care of something?
You should post pictures of your garden in the summer time. I'd love to see the "explosion in a paint factory"

Re: Yule - What do You Celebrate?
I have some, but they are scans of old photos I have taken.
What I want to do is make a series this year in all seasons, moods, etc, with this new digital photograph making thingy.
Must admit, it is MUCH better than I thought it would be for the size and price.
But as I take them I will post them in "members photos".
